Excerpts from Perfidy, The Debacle Series
"Once more, the screeching sound echoed around us, and I questioned Noah if he had heard it. “Did you catch that noise?”
“No, my love, but please alert me if you detect any more noises. Carmen, I hate surprises, especially frightening ones.” He leaned closer to rub my hand, and his tender touch assuaged me.
Chaos erupted as barking dogs filled the air, screams pierced the stillness, and people dashed from the lake. As I peeked over the brick wall, my anxiety lingered. I saw nothing, but I was sure a sound or something terrified my neighbors enough that they fled. Something lurking in the water filled my neighbors with fear, prompting their unexpected departure from the beach. The water roared and crashed, reaching heights above the average. I had a perfect waterfront view with the shore just a few feet away. Despite the circumstances, many neighbors defied the odds and continued their routine, taking their dogs for a walk along the beach.
Fierce wind gusts carried the unsettling energy of panicked and confused voices. With each air gust, sky-to-ground lightning bolts flashed across the heavens.
A robust breeze wailed with an unmistakable foreboding, hinting at an impending storm. My fingers fastened around the armrest as the forceful breezes whipped against my skin, bringing respite to the sultry air. Over the canopy, lights tinkled and swayed. Shimmering sunlight on our outdoor deck formed a detailed pattern of lively orange, yellow, and red tints.
Unmarked, sleek, black police hovercrafts raced across the sky with a hum, increasing my panic that something forbidden existed in the airspace. To ease my fear, I paused and inhaled, the tempting scent of the lasagna wafting through the air, triggering my hunger. The casserole dish sat on the metal table warmer. Noah and I needed to finish work assignments, so we agreed to delay our meal by thirty minutes."
Screeching sounds in heaven must have disturbed Carmen so much that she feared what might happen next. In my novel Perfidy, The Debacle Series.
We become fearful when the unknown happens in our lives. Such as what is our next step when a loved one dies, how to handle a job dismissal, a breakup in a marriage, a friendship you thought was real, a sick child that gets worse, and you have no idea how to pay for the hospital bills.
Our lives are a mixture of faith, hope, and reliance on Father God, the Most High God, and we must come to terms with our faith in Him.
For example, an uncertain belief in ourselves rests solely on empty foundations and lacks genuine support or substance. But with unwavering trust in El Shaddai, belief, and faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we can face any challenge that life presents.
